Gum and wire for biplanes,
that is until the 1960s.
In an Ealing workshop,
they built a box
squatted like a toad,
with 6L6 valves of sonic boom.
On Uxbridge Road’s runway,
they rolled it out.
A young pilot with a silken scarf,
turned its engine.
His box roared such reverb
that it splintered fogey eardrums,
and blasted him to the moon
on interstellar overdrive.
